I am running short on time this morning and have a lot to say about the sermon this past Sunday and a few things to say about how boot camp is going.  I will try to make time later this evening to post about those things.

For now, I will leave you with the “words of wisdom” I saw on a church sign yesterday :  Going to church  doesn’t make you any more of a Christian than going to McDonald’s makes you a hamburger.

The Silly Things

I have a running list of “random thoughts” about driving and the things I see.  As you know if you have been reading for a while, I drive a mini van and I’m quite proud of it.  I also have my own set of rules, which may cause some people to call me names (like mini van police).  Sticks and stones.  So here is my list of random thoughts I might be having about you as I pass your slow moving ….

  • That Muraro is NOT going to fit in front of that 18 wheeler …
  • YIKES! it did – hey buddy!  you could cause a wreck!
  • A wreck – I wonder if he’s wearing clean underwear – the ones you are supposed to wear in case you ever get in a wreck
  • Your kid is an honor student?  Maybe you should let her drive!
  • Oh, look – another soccer family – I wonder if soccer balls roll out of their side door when they open it.
  • HA!  You think I haven’t seen that finger before?  I have been driving for 22 years kid.  It’s doesn’t make you look cool, it makes you look stupid.
  • Now as your punishment for being stupid I will speed up and slow down as necessary to force you to stay in the “slow lane”.
  • Not an honor student, I guess.
  • Smoking a cigarette, drinking coffee and talking on your cell phone while driving – you give women drivers a bad name!
  • Could that car possibly go any slower ?  Dumb question.  As a matter of fact, it can travel at the turtle speed of 10 mph – on the interstate!
  • Does that Suburan really have flames painted on the side?  It does!  Ha, think you’re fast buddy?  Mr. Flame boy – let’s see whatcha got -
  • Didn’t think so ….  bye, bye – see you in my rearview mirror!
  • What’s the matter?  Haven’t you ever seen someone sing along with their favorite driving cd before?
  • What’s that – you don’t listen to Meatloaf?  You’re kidding.
  • Come back on Friday, that’s the day I listen to Jimmy Buffet.

Have a great weekend – DRIVE SAFELY!

More Important

I had something silly to post today, but then I read Jan’s blog and wanted to use this post for something more important.  The more important thing is to tell you to make the most of every moment and tell the people in your life what they mean to you.

Silly stuff is fun and I’ll do it later – right now I need to make sure I say, “I love you, my friends.”

Boot Camp & Painting

I was a little humbled in my boot camp class last night.  Chelsea had her workout the hour before mine and stayed to watch me.  By her estimations, my exercising “skill” fall somewhere between the middle and bottom of the class,  She told me not to worry; there are at least two people struggling more than I am.  :)   I love my child.  I’m glad I signed up for boot camp.  I may never star in my own exercise video, but I am moving again and and motivated to use the various equiptment that fills and spills out of our “extra room”.

Scotty started painting one of the rooms in our house this week.  I am happy with the color, but I am sure it will strike people as an odd color for a room.  The color is cocoa rose and it’s rich.  I have been told it’s dark.  Apparently, I like dark colors because someone else told me the green I have picked put for my kitchen is dark too.  That’s OK with me.  I’m the one who lives here.  I know my dark colors aren’t as weird as this house Deana talks about.

As I start this Wednesday morning I know I have to find time to do some cardio today because another boot camp session is about 36 hours from now!

Connecting With God

Yesterday morning, at the beginning of service, Eddie showed a short video of people being asked “How do you connect with God?”.  I was surprised by the people who flat out said “I don’t”.  I even kind of understood the people who were caught off guard and said “I don’t know”.   I spend a lot of time trying to connect with God so I just don’t get it when people are so nonchalant about it.  I was sitting there thinking “How could they not have some sort of plan or some sort of need even, to connect with God?”  I am always shocked by the people who miss it.  And, I am wondering how people make it through their days, weeks, months and years without God.  I rely heavily on my daily conversation with God and I consciously make it a point to seek Him in the things that happen to me and the opportunities I have.  I’m stunned that people can go through an entire day (or even a morning routine) without seeking God.

A long time ago, I heard a lesson on Matthew 6:33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”  The way this was explained changed the way I thought (and think) of every situation.  It’s not a J.O.Y.  (Jesus first, Others second, Yourself last) lesson.  It’s a seek first in everything lesson.  In everything you do, seek God first in it.  No matter what it is.  Seek Him first and give Him the glory.

So, I took the long way around to tell you how I connect with God.  The short answer is prayer and Matthew 6:33.  How do you connect with God?

COLTS WIN!

COLTS ARE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!

Tag … I’m it

Well, I was tagged by Blaine yesterday and I didn’t catch on quick enough.  By the time I decided who I would tag, Jan had already tagged my sister.  OK – first things first.  Five things about me (not already listed on the 100 things about me page) …

1. I do not like ketchup – it stinks

2.  I would be OK if I never, ever had to ever eat squash again ever !

3.  I have been ice skating – once – with my parents

4.  I loved to watch Tuesday Night Fights with Scotty when we were first married.  It doesn’t come on anymore.

5.  My favorite movie is still Roadhouse (sorry Dusty).

Now I tag

Sandy (because she also has a “100 things about me” list)

John Dobbs (who I only know through blogging)

Angie (because it is time for her to write something)

Jeff Jenkins (because I think he is funny)

and for my 5th person, I tag YOU (kind of like Time Magazine’s politically correct *gag* person of the year)

Boot Camp – session 1

First of all, let me pay my respects and extend gratitude to anyone who has ever served or is serving our country.  Thank you.  I appreciate what I can do because you have defended my freedom to do so.  I also do not mean to imply that I could in any way, shape or form duplicate what you do in Boot Camp and beyond.

——————————————————————

Last night I started CAP Elite’s Boot Camp workout.  I had a couple of shaky moments, but I did OK.  I felt a bit tall (because I am) and uncoordinated (because I am am) at times and I tried to stay away from little miss blondie with the perfect workout clothes.  I kind of think she should get kicked up to the advanced class.  There were 10 of us with a range of fitness levels.  Miss Blondie being perfect and Mr Loose Curly Hair dude with tube socks and gym shorts trimmed in white being not so perfect.  I fell somewhere in the middle.  We did a lot of core work and I was glad because that is the whole reason I signed up.  I will work hard for the next 6 weeks and see what kind of shape I am in.  Today it will be cardio on my own and Thursday is session 2!

Chelsea has been working out at CAP Elite for a year and a half now and her speed and strength has improved dramatically.  I’m not looking for the body of an 11 year old athlete.  But for the body of a not so squishy in the middle, feeling better physically and about myself, almost 40 year old.   Time will tell …

On this Monday morning …

… all I have to say is :  COLTS, COLTS !  GO COLTS!

Ewww … ! Boys!

Chelsea had a few friends over yesterday to make Valentine cards.  The topic of conversation centered around the latest Disney Channel Movie until I brought up the subject of … boys! The girls were giggling while I asked about some of the boys in their class.  I did not let them bash these young gentlemen, but did let them tell their stories about the silly things boys do.   I also knew better than to ask about some of the other girls in the class, because that would have been opening the door to gossip and some hurt feelings some of them have had lately.

The girls continued their Valentine making and chit chat about taking dance when they were younger, still dancing now, who will play sports next year in 7th grade and how no one loves soccer as much as Chelsea.  Other topics included what the teacher looks like when he gives “the look”, no one eats the lunchroom food, the mystery surrounding why one kid brings two booksacks ….

The most interesting conversation I had was with one young lady who is apparently obsessed with the NFL.  She knew quarterbacks’ names and which team has a good defense.  I was thinking she knew a lot about football until she informed me that both the Colts and the Saints would lose yesterday.  Seems she doesn’t know as much as she thinks she does.  GO COLTS!!!!!

What a great way to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon.  Chelsea enjoyed every bit of it and thanked me for helping her host.

A special thanks to Lauri for her help and for sharing her creative card making ideas.
